BEGINNINGS OF THE ACPBA: 1974

An early meeting called to deal with problems about bands going to Ottawa in June. Department of Recreation will assist with some funding, but bands must raise the rest. This is later changed. The grants are not forthcoming and the bands have to raise the entire amount. Jack MacIsaac, who has worked very hard to get government support for this project, is very disappointed and expresses concern at the government's lack of support. He points out that pipers and pipe bands are used on posters and brochures to promote the tourism industry but that the government does little to help maintain and promote their work.

The three bands who attend the Canadian Inter-provincial and Canadian Open Pipe Band Championships finish as follows. The Antigonish Legion "A" place 2nd in both events in Grade 2 while the Antigonish Legion "B" band place second in one event in Grade 4. MacDougall Girls attends for Grade 3 but does not place.
