BEGINNINGS OF THE ACPBA: 1981

18 bands register with the Association this year. With the financial crisis now behind them, the Executive finds that it must scale down much of its rather ambitious operations of the past few yeas due to costs.

Scott Williams is appointed to the Gaelic College Board of Governors. The Association Executive urges him to take an active role and not just be an observer.

A judges workshop, a piping and drumming workshop and the indoor meet are all scheduled for the long weekend in May in Antigonish. While it is well attended and well received by those who attend, the Antigonish organizers hope that it will never be scheduled that way again to the tremendous work load for just a few people.

Tom MacIsaac retires as president. Jack MacNeil assumes the office. Barry Ewan finds it lonely in the open piping competitions. He suggests that the category should be divided into two sections that the younger open players will be encouraged to enter competitions.

The Antigonish Highland Society says - No Late Entries! - and means it. A number of competitors are refused entry after the deadline. While tempers run high at first, everyone soon realizes that this move is in everyone's best interests and so all the other games follow suit.
