2010 PIPERS CLUB KICK OFF - A BLAST
The first kick-off event held on February 6 for
the 2010 Pipers Club sessions was a 'blast'......what a great evening of music,
fun, renewal of friendships and the making of new friends. The near
capacity crowd in the hall was kept 'toe tapping' throughout the evening as we
heard a great line up of musicians.
Many thanks to our featured players, The Pipes & Drums of Clan Farquarson,
and solo pipers Thomas Harrington, P/M Malcolm O'dell
and Alex Gandy,
all of who put on excellent performances. The great music carried on into
the ceilidh portion of the evening as we were privileged to hear a few sets from
two young rising stars of the Celtic Music scene, Cassie Anne and Maggie
Jean MacDonald who treated us to some outstanding
tunes on the fiddle and piano, with a little step-dancing as well. Thanks to you
both.
The ceilidh carried on with more Great Highland Bagpipes, small pipes, piano,
bodhran, thrown into the mix. There was even Highland Dancers doing a step or
two. Many of the young pipers who played had earlier in the day competed
at the Halifax Citadel Mini-Gathering which also had its largest turnout to
date. Lots of good music from these 'up and comers'. Thanks to you all for
adding to the evening. It was a great day of music all round. Sadly, there
were a few individuals who wanted to play a tune or two but didn't get the
opportunity but we'll make sure to get you up at the next Pipers Club.
