LA SCOTS PICK UP ELLIOTS, GANDY
Published: January 31, 2010
The
Grade 1 Los Angeles Scottish Pipe Band has added to its roster with two
front-rank pipers and a mid-section leader, with John Elliott, Alex Gandy and
Andrew Elliott, all of Ontario, coming on board. The long-time Pipe-Major
of the Peel Regional Police and Toronto & District bands, John Elliott departed
Peel last September, indicating his retirement. Tenor-drummer Andrew Elliott,
John Elliott's son, had also played with the Peel Police for more than a decade,
most recently leading the band's bass-section.
Alex Gandy departs the Grade 2 Hamilton Police after one year. He had previously
been a piper with Field Marshal Montgomery and, before that, the 78th
Highlanders (Halifax Citadel). "We are looking forward to having their
talent and experience in the band as we again make the trip over to Scotland in
August," said LA Scots Pipe-Major Colin Armstrong. Armstrong added that,
in addition to the World Championships, his band is planning to compete at
Lisburn, Northern Ireland, the week before.
The LA Scots finished 14th in the 15-band Grade 1 Qualifier competition at the
2009 World's.
